Every artist starts with a pencil. This programme is built entirely around dry media β graphite, charcoal, and fine line work β across two complementary paths: classical drawing and meditative Zen art. Students can focus on one, or move between both.
Drawing & Sketching
The foundation all visual art rests on: observational drawing, shading, form, and proportion. Whether it is a stand-alone pursuit or preparation for painting later, this is where real skill begins. You learn to see before you learn to make.
Zen Drawing & Painting
The quieter path β Zentangle, repetitive pattern, mandala work, and meditative line drawing. Less about technique to master, more about focus to find. Students leave each session calmer than they arrived, with work that rewards patience.
How the Class Works
Both paths run as 10-session programmes, 2 hours per session, in small groups of no more than 6, using pencil and charcoal β the most forgiving, foundational tools in art. Nothing here is timed or graded; the pace is deliberately unhurried. Open to ages 6 and up.
What You Take Away
- Ten sessions across observational drawing, shading, proportion, pattern work, and meditative line drawing
- A foundation that makes every other medium easier to pick up afterward
- A calmer, steadier way of working that often carries outside the studio
